I remember when Maggie was about 6 1/2 months old her Auntie Jenny came down for a visit.
She asked me if Maggie was sitting up by herself yet and I told her that I didn't know that she was supposed to be. So that very second we sat Mags up and stepped away to watch would happen... nothing happened... she just sat there... straight as a board... oops. I love that the only one that didn't know that she could sit up, was me... her own Mom.
This story had a point by the way...
I'm always surprised at how smart little people can be.
I'm constantly underestimating Maggie and then she makes me feel sheepish for doing so.
The other day I put Beauty and the Beast in for Maggie to watch (only for a bit, she's not a real "sit down and watch a full movie" kinda gal) while I was in my room editing some photos.
I kind of became focused on what I was doing and blocked out all background noise, but not before long, I could hear some interesting activity going on out in the living room.
First.. I heard something being dragged across the floor, then silence...
then I could hear some clicking, then silence...
and then I could hear the beginning of Barbie's Princess and the Pauper playing on the T.V.
When I walked out into the living room to investigate, I found Maggie in front of the television, elevated by the kitchen step stool, and trying to figure out how to leave the movie menu and begin the actual show. I was dumbfounded. She had tugged the stool from the kitchen to the living room, ejected Beauty and the Beast, inserted Barbie and was trying to figure out how to move forward.
For a kid that doesn't watch a lot of movies, she's sure got a handle on the DVD player.
Who knew?
I certainly didn't.
